tl;dr new starsiege game!?

Hi-Rez has apparently spun off a new company called Prophecy Games, and allegedly they now have the Starsiege IP (minus what is still held by Activision via Cyberstorm.) They have announced a new game called "Starsiege Raiders" and it is currently in its alpha stage of development. Several pre-alpha screenshots have been released over the past week (See below links), and the game is being described as a looter shooter with procedurally generated maps. The game's official twitter account says that they will be announcing more in the coming days, with a stream of the pre-alpha during twitch con between OCT 7th and 9th.

Never played border. At any rate I'd say hirez never understood tribes at all, but it'd be easier to just say they don't understand game design at all.

isnt hirez just rich papa giving junior his very own game co kind of thing. last i heard all theyre good at is bleeding $.

Games as a Service (GaaS) has been dying for a while now. Odd that they would try to pursue that (other than the fact it's an easy way to crank out a cash grab for AAA studios).

Unless they're going for more of a PvPvE Battle Royale type game, but even BR games have been on the decline.

probably started dev when br and live service was all teh rage and now theyre fked

the lesson of chasing fads is a lesson never learned

GaaS is definitely not dying.
If you mean subscription model only games like MMOs, yes.

But live game service games are not going anywhere, it's the best model to keep a game alive when you control the servers.

They advertise a new "Starsiege" game and then post teaser screenshots of a generic looking first person shooter...

... I'd say they don't know what Starsiege is either.
