US Central Command Twitter & Youtube feeds 'hacked' by "ISIS Sympathisers"

US Central Command Twitter and YouTube feeds hacked by people claiming to be Islamic State supporters - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

"We can confirm that the CENTCOM Twitter and YouTube accounts were compromised earlier today," Central Command said in a statement.

"We are taking appropriate measures to address the matter."

"It's a pretty significant difference between what is a large data breach and the hacking of a Twitter account," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.

"We're examining and investigating the extent of this incident."

The FBI said it was investigating the hack and that it was working with the defence department "in order to determine the nature and scope of this incident".

Central Command said operational military networks were not compromised and there was "no operational impact".

It said an initial assessment found no classified information was posted by the hackers.
