You don't.. Go get xnews or some other ng decoding software. Btw if you can afford 10 dollars a month for .. say .. www.easynews.com, you'll save yourself alot of headaches if you use it right. Like if you dl from your isp server and miss 3 parts of 50 or whatever (and don't have the pars) you can go back and fill them using minimal dl from easynews far back as a month or so. You can also just go back that far to grab stuff you missed and didn't know was there or whatever...it works great.
 
someone hook me up with a free news server that allows downloading of binary files

edit: k so, i just read the thread...still need a free server that allows alt.binaries :shock:

I think im missing something. Cause only like 100-200 results show up in like alt.binaries.dvd (I changed the "first time records" to 3000)

also, par2 is pretty exciting (err, awesome more than exciting)

it's alot slower than par1 (creating the parity set, recovering the parity set) but it's possible to recover individual articles (actually just individual parts, but it's possible to get individual articles to be individual parts)

unfortunately not all newsreaders have the capability to download partial articles (grabit, for example) but it's still awesome

well, for binaries - you are pretty much outta luck, unless your isp has one

otherwise, i 'think' quite a few can be found

kinda OT, but I just got a new comp and lost all my old files: someone hook me up with a link to Tribes1 zip file plz, i know some tribe had it hosted... <3
 
The NNTP ignorance here is stunning. Back in the old days before the web existed all we had was NNTP. Here are the very few tools you need to take advantage of news groups:

PowerGrab (and PowerPost if you want to post tons). Free. Found at http://www.cosmicwolf.com/

XNews from Luu Tran. Free. Found at http://xnews.newsguy.com/

WinRAR is a requirement, and these days you really can't get buy without Fluid Studios Software RAID Toolkit. Free at http://www.fluidstudios.com.

Just don't do anything illegal. And stuff.
 
I'm clueless about newsgroups, but I wanna get into it.
I'm in Canada and using Rogers, anyone have any clues where to start?
