CimaVax blocks endogenous EGF by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies towards it. We already have drugs and monoclonal antibody therapies that do this through another mechanism of blocking its receptor, EGFR.

CimaVax would be given only to those with cancer, you would not want to block all EGF expression for your life, so it would be a treatment similar to these other therapies and not a preventative. This is not really that much of a breakthrough due to the fact that we already have similar treatments. This could be used in combination with other drugs to maybe prolong life a few months.
