It was a saftey test.......
I have not seen this video in years btw, they show it during training for lift operators. One thing I remember is, hit the emergency stop button if it keeps rolling back run like fucking hell.

they were taking down the lift, i think this was filmed at a-basin.

so instead of just taking it apart they decided to see what would happen if the emergency rollback failed. they weighted the chairs with cinderblocks to simulate skiers on the lift.

would not want to be on a lift when that happens.
