Maybe I just don't understand flying, but it just turns into a glider without the prop, right? So the cool part is just that he didn't freak out/miss his chance to recover?

Unbelievably calm and cool response from the pilot, engine cuts when he's ALMOST in a flat spin and he immediately drops the nose, levels off and finds his way to runway in a single smooth turn. Bravo

True but at the speed & altitude he was at, he basically only had a couple seconds to make that perfect landing before he was SOL.
