Why has the concept of a competency based 'exam' never been applied to politicians in America?
For instance the qualifications of a presidency are principally:
* be a natural-born citizen of the United States;
* be at least thirty-five years old;
* have been a permanent resident in the United States for at least fourteen years.
Primarily, national elections seem to be based on bias and appearance and manipulation of the masses. Locally, elections are somewhat more pure, voters make their decision based on prior experience that has effected their specific communities. Why hasn't there ever been an amendment to the qualifications of a national political career? Perhaps a literacy and/or history(US and world) exam could be administered. Many federal and state jobs require an entrance exam and a follow up exam every couple years after to maintain job position. Voters should be given a broader context of their candidates that levels the playing field and diminishes the effect of mud-slinging and slander. A 'test' obviously could not be based on experience, but should include a higher level of education. So many aspects of American life operate on a level of standardized testing, why are the potential leaders of our country exempt?
Discuss.
