'Piracy' student loses US extradition battle over copyright infringement

Okay, seriously, if you run a pirating website, you need to be prepared for something like this. It's not legal, remember?

Downloading copyrighted movies and games and music and sometimes even porn is illegal. Just because it's easy to do and everyone else is doing it, doesn't mean you shouldn't get in trouble for doing it. All you morons crying about it need to understand that part.

Except this guy didn't host any copyrighted material and even the UK laws are not clear on this matter.
Atleast read the article before commenting.

who cares, british people are fags anyway, put them all in jail

this would never happen in a country that actually had balls

but England is a little bitch and wholly subservient to the US

This. :roller:

screw the google search.. go punch some search terms into msnbc.com and see what sort of illegal material they link to.

Does NBC take themselves to court? that's some serious inception shit right there...

This is really dumb on the part of the UK. I can see why US agencies would try to go after someone like this, but I can't fathom at all why the UK would actually bend and agree to extradition in a situation like this.

Allowing a citizen to be taken away to another country to be (potentially) put in jail for 10 years, for an offense that never took place in that country is just ridiculous. It's not as if this is a hot button issue in where US/UK relations would be harmed if the UK told the US to fuck off. Pretty ridiculous.

the UK for being little bitches

what they should have said was "fuck you, united states" and let that be the end of it

i don't get the sympathy for this criminal, he broke the law, now he gets punished

you're probably breaking 20 different muslim laws and decrees right now

so do you mind if the Republic of Jordan comes and whisks you away for trial?

i don't get the sympathy for this criminal, he broke the law, now he gets punished

it's not sympathy for him.

it's outrage that the US and UK would agree to extradite him from the UK (where it's not clear he broke any laws) to the US (where he's not a citizen, didn't commit the crime, and also the US has no jurisdiction). it's pretty messed up.

and the people comparing what he did to search engines are dumb. it's not the same thing at all. if you're going to try to advocate for downloading copyrighted material without permission at least do so without looking like a fucking retard. until then shut the fuck up.

not really

these link sites where no files are actually hosted break no laws, really

you can't go to jail for showing people where to commit crimes

sure it's ethically/morally wrong, but not legally

uh, you sure about that?

the 'i don't actually host the files' argument has been tried and not worked in the US, which is where he'll be prosecuted. it's about intent. his intent was to build a repository of copyrighted work for others to download and use without permission.

But a university student from the UK? Free game. Easy money. "Lets make an example."

Bullies always prey on the weak.

A penniless 21 year old filled with fear and devoid of any wisdom or life confidence...

Must feel good to toss kids from other countries in the slammer.

Fucking assholes should be ashamed of themselves.
