Yes, I know my posts are monuments to my greatness, but I haven't done anything as cool as shooting down 158 planes and mastering the art of deflection shooting, something most people never do, in the space of a year.

its more of the boxing usage of the term undefeated where you can lose 10 fights at the start of your career but once you start kicking ass the next thing you know you are 25-0 with 10 knockouts

As far as I'm aware, he was shot down a few times, but they were in his early days (then again, I'm not an expert on him... I've been looking for a decent book for a while.)

Regardless, the point is that he didn't fall in combat. His plane killed him where his enemies couldn't.
