Iraq weather question

Really? Does the box really get there that fast? I mean, I don't really know how she is sending them but do cookies really make the journey well enough?

Yeah, I've been in Iraq over the last two Christmas seasons and we'd get boxes and boxes of homemade cookies. Good times.

There are cookies all over the place because of the girlscouts, but home-made > Girlscout.

As for time, this depends on where he is. If he is at a major fob, you can get a 2 week turn around. If he's stuck on a firebase or in he field, it could take 2 months.

So cookies and whiskey, and he will be happy.

ninja edit: put the cookies in ziplocks, squeezing out as much air as you can. Put the ziplocks in disposable tupperware and they will be fine.

no coco mix.
It is different now from when i was there (2003). BUT... anything hot sucks other than instant coffee. Send candy (not gummy bears as they melt into a a shitty mass). I would say to send socks and underwear but now they have places to get that shit. Find out what console they have and send the latest game or send them books if they read (not likely).

The trick is sending something the PX doesn't have.

Booze and cookies.

 and MREs have coco

I make some mean fucking cookies but I'm not really sure they'll last 2 weeks let alone 2 months in a box even if they're sealed up.

the danger is having them sit on the tarmac for a month in Qattar, but I can honestly say from personal experience, homemade goodies are always fucking win.

Heh, I was toying with the idea of sending him an Obama pin but seeing as he and his family are rabid republicans I don't think he would appreciate it.

The troops always love what I send for christmas. Usually a pound of weed. I get thank you letters from entire squadrons.

Fudge would be really awesome.

And booze is against regs.

And he probably shouldn't be having many MRE's unless he is out in the boondocks or constantly on patrol/convoys.

Booze is only against regs if you are dumb and get caught.

Homemade sweets are treasured as well as family photo's and handwritten notes. If you have Tivo and can make DVD's those are good too, but it's gotta be something AFN doesn't show. Also forget movies because the haji's have dvds of what is playing in the theaters. Avoid items 7-11 has because the Exchange will have them too. Avoid UCMJ items like booze and porn too unless you want him to get in trouble.
