Pretty simple seals, 2 square profile and a big o ring

If you have gone that far, you may as well pull the rod out and do the piston seals, they are probably toast as well.

Those are the only seals in there AA, the 'piston' is just a big washer on the end of the rod. Mainly there to keep the rod in the cylinder, but it does act as a piston too.

The Gland Nut, washer, and shaft.

The Gland Nut on the shaft with the washer. It stays near the Gland Nut inside the cylinder, so the shaft is also the 'piston'.

Back together for transport to the rebuild shop. There's a place half an hour away that makes their own rams.
Dude at work said he used to take all kinds of hydro rams there.

ah, it's weird but makes sense, single acting with an external spring return so doesn't need internal piston seals.

I pulled the other 2 rams off, and they are all the same size and stroke. Hopefully that will simplify things at the repair shop.

Goddamn snow today was quite a bit heavier than expected. Put her back together with a ram stolen from the old plow.

The rod end was bigger than the old ram, so I ran the ram on top of the bracket instead of inside it.

Probably best as the fluid connection would have interfered with the bracket on the hinge side.

Double sheer would have been better, as designed, but this is probably the last snow of the year (I hope), and I just wanted to get it done.

Man this is nice. Pushes a huge pile at once.

A snow like this would have taken me much longer with a straight blade!

This was a shitty slushy sleet nonsense that's perfect for snowballs. If you wanted to hurt someone. It was only 2 inches deep, but could have easily been 14 inches of powder. I had to use the old man ergonomic shovel for the steps and sidewalks.

Hopefully it's gone by the weekend.

why don't you mount a boiler on the back of a truck and go around with a massive hot wash water cannon

you could put that plane de-icing stuff in it

I prefer flamethrowers.
Here's the reason I'm trying to get the old rams rebuilt instead of just getting new.

The yellow ram is 2 years old, but the paint stress cracked almost immediately near the ends of the tube. There's some bulging near the gland nut end.

The original ram off the new plow is twice as heavy with thicker walls. It's rusty, but I don't see any evidence of stress or bulging on the tube.

Picked another piece of equipment for the snowmageddon today. The sign said "free, works great"

It was accurate.
