Essential PC Programs

I just reformatted an old laptop and was starting to compile my favorite programs, and started to wonder what other people thought were essential programs to have....

I am mostly using this laptop for internet browsing, though I would like to throw a small game or two on here.

Any suggestion?

Then VLC, mIRC, Firefox, updated Windows Media Player.

Soldat and tribes 1-2 for sure... that's tribes(-1) for those keeping track.
