ATX power supply.. wtf

It's called a 20+4 pin connector. The 4-pin usually slides into a slot on the end of the 20-pin to form a 24-pin. Not to be confused with the 4-pin P4 connector that plugs into a different place on the motherboard, typically near the CPU.

Ok, upon further inspection of the power supply.. There's the 4 pin connector to the port near CPU, then there's a 20 pin ATX... and a spare 4 pin. Would it be safe to plug this into the extra 4 pins left over on the ATX?

The piece LOOK like they're are designed to be that way, but I don't want to fuck anything up.

ATX got a refresh/update, the standard is now 24-pin for the motherboard main connector. If you have an older motherboard (20-pin motherboard main connector) and a newer power supply, just ignore the extra connector.
