Alternative to Sonicwall

We're getting pretty fed up with Sonicwall lately because the Gateway anti-virus is almost as useful as having nothing since they can't even add month old detections to their signatures database. So, we're shopping around for a new security appliance.

Requirements:
Capacity 200-500 nodes
Firewall
Content Filtering
Gateway Anti-virus
Gateway Anti-spyware
L2TP or SSL client VPN
Site to site VPN
IPS
Email attachment filtering
Spam filtering would be a bonus, but not required

Any suggestions?

My suggestion would be to get a new sig since you haven't killed anything in EVE in almost a year

are you saying you want the gateway to do all of that because it sounds like you want ... a sonicwall with a procurve or nomadix behind it

We wouldn't be against a managed solution as long as it meets all the requirements. In fact, it may be preferred since we'll soon be managing IT services for about 7 different companies, so an enterprise solution may be more sensible.

whats wrong with centrally managed AV and just dropping the sonicwall AV portion? your AV solution + ms defender + tight firewall/browsing control is a *LOT* cheaper than ripping out your sonicwall solution entirely and replacing it with cisco or whatever at 2-5X cost.

Well the GAV isn't the only issue we have with it. The content filtering is pretty weak as well and their bundled NAV solution is McAfee which is becoming worse than a virus itself. And their support isn't even worth calling on since their usual solution is to wipe the unit, install the latest firmware, and reconfigure everything, only to still have the original issue.

... is over-priced shit.

Secure Computing is the best there is. It is also priced accordingly.

McAfee has acquired Secure Computing, a global leader in enterprise security solutions. Secure Computing's award-winning solutions, powered by TrustedSource™ technology, proactively protect mission-critical business applications from Internet-borne threats. The acquisition of Secure Computing extends McAfee's position as the industry leader in security risk management, with the most comprehensive and integrated endpoint, gateway, and hybrid security offerings.

Well there goes that one. :(

Check out FortiNet. Excellent pricing, incredible performance and will provide you with exactly what you're looking for.

Haven't heard of that one. I'll check it out.

I don't have any single sites with over 150 nodes, but we've honestly abandoned the all in one gateway thing. Just gotten strict on forcing\watching updates, group policy, and firewall rules.

The only infections we get anymore are 0 day pdf issues and they pretty much got solved with disabling javascript in pdf readers.

AV software, gateway or otherwise, were fucking useless since all the big infections that come from legitimate sites were new shit anyway.

Makes sense, if you are going to buy ad space on nytimes.com or do an sql injection on a big site like that, you only have a few hours window and it's gonna cost you real money, you wouldn't use a virus anyone had ever seen before.
