Did you get that for free? If not, how much do those transmissions normally cost rebuilt/used?

Salvaged transmission, spent gas hauling it home, spent time pulling the transmission out (not working on other projects), etc. Just wondering what the ROI is on something like that.

I guess if you consider it a hobby/entertainment then ROI doesn't matter as much. You could always start a YouTube channel and document each of your projects to try to recuperate costs that way. :weird:

Yeah, free. I'm getting into it now as mine is barely pulling itself up hills, much less me on it. I'm getting tired of limping it up hills walking next to it...

eBay has used transmissions for $400. Mine has a tuff torq k46, this model has the k62. There are kits available to swap the k66 into my mower, but they are over $2000. The k62 is the same size but rated for les power.

My tractor has 1200+ hours on it. The burned up tractor was brand new. Sounded like he mowed the yard in the spring, then crammed it under his porch into some dry leaves.

Specs for the k46
Axle Torque (Rated)
28.04:1 = 231.4 (171)
21.53:1 = 177.7 (131) Nm (lb-ft)

The k62
Axle Torque (Rated)
26.90:1 = 294 (217)
18.65:1 = 203 (150) Nm (lb-ft)

and the k66
Axle Torque (Rated)
37.22:1 = 420 (310)
22.19:1 = 250 (185) Nm (lb-ft)

The k62 isn't a huge improvement over the k46, but shares the same case and most of the internals of the k66. The price was right too.

Pulled a plastic glob of battery, steering wheel and wires off. Yanked the deck and engine. I think the engine block will be ok once I chip all the melted plastic away. I have 2 spare engines with "inspection holes" I'll cannibalize the electrics from to repair it.

The rear end is different enough that I don't want to engineer new brackets. I have most of another tractor I can cut up to make it work.

Update!

Found a dude that had some extra mowers and john deere stuff. Picked up a lx277 and a gx235. The 235 transaxle may bolt into the machine i already have, and i can put together another one or two other machines. Also got 2 48 inch decks and other misc parts.

I'm currently using a L110. Have a burned up Lx266, a mostly complete Lx277 without engine, and a mostly compete Gx235 with engine that should run and cut grass without too much work.

Got the GT235 running today, seems like it will be good to go tomorrow, just need tires and a battery.
