Thanks Nomad, for whatever reason, we never needed to add a carriage return for RS-232, it’s possible that it was automatically added by the CNC code. The older Version controller was more like G-Code where the newer one is more like C#. So I think a lot of the dirty work was done by the older OS in the background, where the new one requires a lot more code.

It’s like furniture. You used to buy fully assembled tables and chairs and bring them home. Now you buy them and you have to assemble it yourself at home.

Fucking carriage return though. Doh!
 
Oh, as far as the converter goes, we need to use a TCP/IP to RS-232/485 adapter, not usb. One particular Laser manufacturer we use only has RS-232/485, so to use this controller we need to send code from Ethernet convert it to RS-485 for the Laser.

We use USB to RS-232/485 all the time.
