I was in the room a couple weeks ago when someone won the Bad Beat Jackpot. It was about $135k. And only pays out once a year. You have to have quad Jacks or better, using both hole cards, and lose the hand. Everyone at the table gets a small cut and the dealer gets 10%
So basically you don't read news, and have no idea what is going on.

In a casino you play against all the other poker players, not the house. Every other single thing that takes place in a casino you play against the house. Have a little think about that.
Tournaments have a very high skill level over a large sample. Of course at the micro level in a small sample any hand can lose, I can get all my chips in with 72 offsuit against AA and still have a 12% chance of winning. The skill is making the right decisions more often than everyone else. There are literally thousands of people that have made a lot of money by doing that.

I always like sit&go tournaments when I go to Vegas. Easy way to kill 2 hours, and the blinds go up quickly enough that you can push a decent hand from a strong position and cut the legs out from more aggressive players and coast to a final table. As long as get a couple drinks out of it, I don't even care if I miss the money.
