This action will come one day after Instacart workers are refusing to shop and deliver groceries until the company meets their demands. Shoppers’ current demands are offering hazard pay of $5 extra per order, changing the default tip to 10%, and extending the sick pay policy to those who have a doctor’s note for a pre-existing condition that may make them more susceptible to contracting the virus.

If retail and warehouse businesses are deemed essential and they cannot provide their employees with personal protection equipment, they should send their civilian employees home on full pay and have their state governors activate the National Guard to man their stores and warehouses. Soldiers knew they were putting their lives on the line when they signed up. Retail workers did not.

Most of the time demand brings about supply. Have you seen how many companies are transforming? You have car companies making masks and ventilators, vodka companies making hand sanitizer, pillow companies making masks. If there's a need out there, there are others that want to fill that need. We will be fine.
