Tribalwar wiki article mega thread

Bugs's application for deletion of the tribalwar wiki, if it should come to pass, will necessitate the writing of a new one that complies with the site's requirements. Even if that does not happen, several of the heavy hitters are reviewing the application now, and some agree grudgingly that it's a keeper, but it needs sources, content review, and notations.

Okay, since I am making this thread, and because we all know that I can write well, I'll pull it together if no one else wants to. If someone else wants to spend their time doing that, awesome, go for it. Just say so.

What I (or someone else) will need are volunteers, and people to start bringing up things that are truly notable and historical about this site and its interactions with the broader internet culture, and sources for those things. There is no way that one single person can write the whole history of Tribalwar and make connections to its significance to the outside world. We're going to need to do this together if we're going to do it.

And if you don't want to contribute, or think it's stupid, that's fine. I understand. But I think that this site deserves a legitimate footnote in the history of the world, no matter how small or insignificant that is to anyone else. So please respect that and spend your time more productively without cocking this thread up with bullshit. Thanks.

sticky, yeeeeeessss

I think it's stupid; but, I will submit that Musashi's Dean kitty pic was on the main page of Howard Stern's website (edit: to the thread, not wikipedia. Someone else can do that).

Blitz - Bragged about getting 40 points on defense in Tribes Vengeance. Got fired from his job at Toys R' Us for secretly taking pictures of female customers. Reference thread

Choke Slam - Sarcastick beatup 15 year old LGBR at uvalan for making fun of him on the forum and annoying him in person. Used as a mock e-threat. Reference thread

Ctrl-k IRL - A way to tell someone to kill themselves in real life. Refers to the key combo used to suicide in tribes.

Critter - One of the first women to come to TW for attention. Narrowly beat out juggernaught in a ban poll. Eventually she came back as "Deranged" and posted a poem she wrote because her brother died in a car crash. Reference thread

Durak - Bragged about getting all 5's on his high school AP tests. Thinks he's good at soccer but apparently does not know the definition of offsides, and owns a pair of garish ruby soccer shoes. Goes to Cornell (the Ivy League safety school) and claimed that going to that university alone would get him great jobs.

Drifting - Used to make fun of project2501, who thinks drifting in his miata is the coolest thing

Foam Party - Mitsubishi advertised having a foam party at mitsulan, an ill advised attempt at a lan that never happened. There was to be a party with hot women, a dj, and foam. A foam party is a prerequisite for any great lan now. Refrence thread

Friend - Tribalwar used to have a filter that changed "fag" to "friend". For a brief period TW was full of friendgots.

GGG - Refers to the thread, "Girls, Girls, Girls" made by sircle, dedicated to posting barely non-pornographic pictures of slutty chicks. The original ggg thread was closed by Rayn because it was bogging down the server. "Girls, Girls, Girls (contd.)" has since taken its place. "GGG" is used when someone makes a thread dedicated to googled images of random internet sluts. Sircle has since devoted his life to holy causes and speaks only in emoticons. Reference thread

Goatse - After September 11th, Rayn posted an image of what appeared to be the devil's face in the smoke. It found its way to cnet which eventually syndicated a story directly linking the image. Rayn changed the image to the goatse.cx man and roughly 300,000 people from various news sites including CNN were exposed. Reference thread

HaPpy Flag - Created by HaPpy of the tribe NuTz, it was a cheat that allowed the user to see a giant model of the flag in CTF. This made it easy to find dropped flags and people on the other team carrying the flag. Later turned into HaPpy mod which added nofog and marked where every player was on the map.

HELJCMO - A forum troll left over from the original Sierra boards. Was horrible at Tribes (even pre-skiing) and yet continued to make posts about how best to balance the game. After discovering the existence of cheats and their use by a small fraction of the community, he publicly released Happyflag claiming it would "level the playing field".

Hyperventilate - "The trick is to hyperventalate and flood the bloodstream with oxygen then be as effecient as possible." Someone posted a video of a guy holding his breath and swimming for 166 meters. A few people asked what his trick was and soon the previously quoted statement became the answer to any question posted on TW for the next few months in a truely strange e-phenomenon. Reference thread

isuck@tribes - Desperate for ePopularity. Caught cheating several times, continues to deny it to this day (while still cheating). Walking advertisement for American Eagle and A&F. Liked by nobody except people trying to fuck his sister. Purchased a Tribalwar account from a retired poster in order to circumvent a ban.

Juggernaught - Believes that AIDS is transferable through water and that no plane hit the pentagon on 9/11.

Labtop - Colosus accused of taking donated money and buying a laptop and plane tickets for himself and pixiedee by Fraggle. Reference thread

Mav - Mav first claimed to have played football (just because he was fat), but people realized it was bullshit when he didn't know anything about the game. Later he claimed to be a jedi and use the force on people (and he was serious). After a barrage of donut insults, he went into a self-destructing rage and was banned from TW for his own good

Meber - Gigafool wanted his title changed to "meber" so new people to the site would think TW misspelled the title for new members. Became the standard term in reference to members.

mstrike - Ugly, long haired, skinny, one-balled teenager who liked to post naked pictures of himself with things written on his body. Also created fake drama using smurfs and a number of friends from his school. Lost ban poll, but tries to return every few weeks. Every new member is mstrike until proven otherwise.

Ocman - Grew a tail and had to have it surgically removed. Used TW to get a gig on the fox morning show, "Good Day Live" and hasn't been seen since. Reference 1 ... Reference 2

orbital123 - Was once a rampant Christian Canadian supporter who pissed everyone off with bullshit about God and liberalism. Then he had an epiphany and completely flipped the script. He began hating God and turned to nanobots as the new path to immortality so that he could at least cling to some hope that somewhere, somehow, there was a life better than his piece of shit existence in his mother's basement doing jujitsu.

Panama Jack - Another remnant of the original Sierra boards, Panama Jack really didn't hit the big time until the release of T2, where he became one of the game's more prominent scripters. Of course his scripts were as pointless as most T2 scripts, changing font type and color, adding huds that told you what other huds were displaying, etc. He became openly hostile in all "T2 sucks" threads, claiming Tribalwar almost ruined tribes and that Tribes 2 was a fantastic game.[/b]

Piotrr - Married a woman older than his mother (Not an exaggeration, she is 2 years older). Her son is getting out of prison soon and is coming for them to collect his inheritance. Her son is older than him.

Power: 1000 - A forum devoted to scooters named goped nation was directly linking to our smiley collection. Rayn deleted some smileys and they began to receive login prompts to TW every time they tried to load a post with the deleted gifs. They assumed we were hacking them and began to launch AOL attack scripts. Rayn stumbled upon this randomly some time later and thought it was funny. One of their admins later shared one of their members' IP address in exchange for a custom smiley. Reference thread

Project2501 - Got a co-worker fired for calling the music he was listening to gay and being insensitive and came to TW to brag about it. Won second place in the biggest douche bag of all time poll. Posted a picture of himself posing with his Miata. Posted pictures of Yankee's daughter. Posted pictures of his morbidly obese girlfriend to brag about how hot she was. Thinks drifting is cool. Reference thread

RamataKahn - Claimed that skiing ruined Tribes. Also used a signature that revealed he had 600 hours of playing World of Warcraft, less than 2 months after the game's release. He tried to claim it was beta testing and not because he was playing 10 hours a day on average.

Sandpaper - A wildcard answer to pretty much every question as a result of a thread by Finalheaven, who tried to clean his monitor with sandpaper following a mock suggestion. Reference thread

*SPAWN* TEHVUL - Bragged about his illegal gun collection, and believed it perfectly fine to leave a loaded shotgun in the corner of his room because his small children knew it was wrong to play with. Reference thread

Spydur - Synonym for gay as a result of backfire thread by the member Spydur. Reference thread

Stage 1 - Vir of the tribe 5150 was called out for his elitist attitude by Refried. His teammates stood by his side and much drama insued. "Stage 1" was 5150's exit from TW and coincided with a general separation from the remainder of what was left of the tribes community. Vir coined the term as a facetious dig at the community's reaction to the whole drama and it has since been used anytime 5150 is mentioned. Nobody is really sure yet what stage 2 is or when it'll start. Stage 3 is profit. Reference 1 ... Reference 2

Treadmill - Refers to a 135 page debate over whether or not a fucking plane can take off from a treadmill. The real-time 9/11 thread was 81 pages. Reference thread

Triple - Former staff originally assigned to post news about T:V. Kept staff title after T:V died and used his moderator powers on numerous occasions for his own interests. Voted biggest douchebag in TW history. Soon thereafter was kicked off staff for poor admin qualities. Reference 1 ... Reference 2

Twist of the year - Trew_Soulja was mad that his friend stole a girl he had a thing for and used the word "twist" seven times in a post to refer to his friend's action. To emphasize how big of a shitbag his friend was, trew said that he pulled the "twist of the year." (including last year). Reference thread

VAB Nothing left to Prove - VAB (typed in sequentially) was used to say, "bye" in tribes. Refers to the eventual thread every team who ever made #1 in a tribes ladder would make when they inevitably retired a few days later so nobody could knock them from their spot. You weren't a top team unless you made a VAB nothing left to prove thread.

VAV - Typed in sequentially in tribes, was used to say, "how'd that feel?" Now is used as a way of saying, "owned."

Veterans - When TW was first started you were either a member or an admin. After TW's first year, Rayn had titles of people who had been members for a year automatically change to "verteran". People now use their vet status as a form of dr. Seuss sneetch style social standing. Rayn has said he regrets ever doing it.

Virus Time - An IRC log was released where sKILLz of the tribe NuTz discussed giving a virus to an individual who knew of their cheating. He typed "VIRUS TIME" repeatedly. This was the first and only time he ever correctly spelled two words in a row.

WCOTC - World Church of the Creator, a forum for a neo-nazi group which tw launched several invasions on. The creator, Matt Hale, was later arrested for soliciting to have a federal judge killed.

Yoda - First to write a suicide letter on TW. Later wrote a scathing post about one of his proffessor who was then contacted by a TW member. Yoda's post was e-mailed to him. This was one of the factors that started a rule of not messing with people IRL. Reference 1 ... Reference 2

credit goes to fool and aestis for many member descriptions

God DAMN how did I miss that? I remember nothing about that.

See, if you include too many things that are only of interest to people in the site, or especially if you aren't concise about all of it, you run into Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information (or Wikipeda:Fancruft).

Remember that they're trying to at least maintain some semblence of an encyclopedia.

Edit: The Something Awful article does get away with quite a bit of fancruft, but they don't list every single event in the website's history. I don't know, I'm just giving you what editors on the Wikipedia might tell you if you start editing this sucker.

Also, if you want a temporary page to screw around with and work on the article without affecting the main one, use http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tribalwar/Temp. This is a fairly typical thing to do, it won't get deleted unless it's obviously being used purely for vandalism or something.
