The PTO went out yesterday after a spirited mowing session. The PTO system turns the blades on and off, its an electric clutch controlled by a switch and electric safeties. The switch goes bad enough on these they make an improved part. Ordered a new switch yesterday and looked at it today.
The damn PTO Clutch went out. Not cheap, and I needed it today. I had planned on hot wiring it until the new switch arrived. A working PTO clutch unit came with the burned up mower I picked up last fall.
Had to get creative removing the old one. Just one bolt and the plug, but it was siezed on the engine shaft.
The locating pin that keeps it from spinning with the engine output shaft was nearly worn through. Put some extra material in there and slapped it back together. Only had a few little oily grass fires on the mower deck. I'll attack the oil leak tomorrow.
