Cool ass story Akuma. I actually read the entire post.
I was also nominated for the Carnegie Hero Award. It was at that time a gold medal and $5,000. I didnt get it either, I lost to a guy that had a heart condition and saved someones life. Honestly, I just wanted the medal so my kids could have it forever.(the money would have been nice too)
Kudos to your mother too, that was pretty awesome of her to do.(weird it was in PA just like me)
Every time I see the toys r us in movies or when I pass it by I cant help but remember that I am the person that "opened" it.
The cover picture for boxes of Milk Bone dog biscuits was of me hugging an Irish setter when I was 8.
The worst part is that the Carnegie Hero Fund is run out of Pittsburgh, about 7 miles from where I live. That's fucked up honestly. I don't understand some of the shit they give away that award for. I think both you and her should have gotten it.

Google images search revealed nothing, which sucks because that box cover lasted on store shelves a damned long time. My ex-girlfriend even had it on her dorm room wall at Fredonia as late as 1992.
Jack Lengyel is one of my fraternity alumni I met him last year at our formal. I think there's a pic of him with some of my brothers somewhere...
edit: here we are
