Why is the UI completely different in the game?

The UI in-game is completely different fron the UI I see in the vids and on the EVE website. Did they redesign recently? Is the one I keep seeing in the promo materials something I can access somewhere?

They redid the UI some time in late 2004 I think.
 
Wait...what did they redo? It seems mostly the same as when I started back immediately after beta, and the same as it did a year and a half ago...
