What part of my system is holding me back?

I'm trying to decide what I need to upgrade in order to be able to play CS:S decent. Here are my specs:

P4 1.8
512mb 266mhz memory
GeForce TI4600 128mb

I'm thinking the CPU is what is causing the crappy FPS in CS:S, what do you guys think?

Thanks

Well, the CPU is slow, but so is the memory speed. I would personally say it's time for a new computer. You could probably hang on to the 4600 as it's not too bad, then upgrade the mobo, then proc to a 2.8 or 3.0, and get 512-1GB of PC3200.
But for the cheapest price/performance upgrade, I'd think it would be investing in a 9800 pro. You'd have to compare them though. I don't think a 2.8GHz (assuming your motherboard supports it) would offer as much FPS as a 9800 pro. But I certainly could be wrong. Check review sites.

that is the best idea. I have an x800 xt pe and I still get crappy FPS in source because my processor sucks and because my ram is too slow. I see people with 9600 that get FPS in the 100s just because they have a fast processor and pc3200 ram. I am also upgrading my computer so that everything is much faster.

Well I think I'm going to hold off on a vid card for now because I usually get my dad's hand me downs, and right now I belive he has a 9800 pro so it's mine as soon as he decides to upgrade lol. Do these two upgrades look good to u?

They're fine, but you're going to need a new motherboard as well.

well then I would say that you should definitly do that. Your graphics card may be somewhat old, but it is still a very good card and if you tweak CS:S a little bit you should be able to get pretty good FPS.
