I have a northface that I really like, the outer shell has vents that are great for days that arent crazy cold and the inner removable shell is awesome for when it is frigid

same one i've got and winter here is about 10 degrees colder than yours. always has done me right no matter what. also has pit-zip b/c i have sweaty pits as well. just my 2c

usually 20 to 30 degrees. I run hot so armpit vents are clutch. I don't really want a detachable inner liner because I always have problems with zippers and shit breaking.

You should check up active GearUp, they have crazy good deals on quality stuff...which is why I have a shit load of smartwool stuff and 4 different pairs of inov8s

Anyone wear Uniqlo heat.tech stuff? I like the slim profile

yeah, it's a decent synthetic base layer, especially for the price

for jackets I like softshells, and then layer as needed. OR Ferrosi or the Arcteryx Gamma MX are decent examples. They might look too "technical" for you though, I dunno
