If you think your drive is stuffed then pull it out and install on a new one straight away. get a cheap external hub or enclosure so you can read the data from the old one later.
Drives are cheap as shit and if it turns out you were wrong then you now have a spare external drive.
make an emergency usb boot stick... its a form of linux, but can access ntfs/fat. from there, backup yer shit to external hd, then run scandisk to confirm it is indeed hd failure. when confirmed, replace with new hd or ssd, and get to installin
