So it's not often that I'm responsible for killing people, so when I in fact manage to break out of my carebear shell every now and then I like to make note of it.
At about 8:00 EVE time, I had just returned from a Carrier run in Empire space, when someone said there was an Opus Itty 5 heading out of Dek from VFK. Now as it was 8:00, there was basically no one online, and the person that spotted the Itty was a BS that couldn't hope to chase it. Now Opus is an ex-NFC corp, and since they didn't get residency they are neutral to IRON and as such KOS in Dek, so they're normally a good target.
I was the only one that got the initial notice, so I hopped in to my tackling Raptor and floored the warp drive in an attempt to catch the Itty. He was alone, so the plan was to lock him down until someone could be assed to wake up in VFK and come blow him away since I didn't have any guns, so after a fumble in 2R, I get a fix on him going straight for D06H in CCP, and head in to D06H to wait on the gate.
Success!
The Itty comes through, decloaks a mere 4k away from me, and after that he's not going anywhere. Then I see the icon; it's light blue.
Uhoh, he's NAP'd to CORE.
After some banter about how IRON has him KOS and CORE has him NAP'd, I check with the CORE leaders(all of one of which is on at the time) to resolve the situation. Since IRON controls Dek, and he was a valid target in Dek, surely I can kill him even with a NAP.
Wrong.
It's at this point that I find out the guy was pulling down a large control tower, and was in fact carrying at least the tower if not some nice fittings too. Unfortunately, as I was informed, the CORE standings override whatever IRON does, and that I had to let him go. I had to let him go with a fellow AUS member not half a jump away with an AF ready to ransom the stuffing out of him, and painfully watch over a quarter-billion in loot fly off.
It was a sad day; I may never get another chance to bag an Industrial. Instead, I must be content with being the Industrial that gets bagged.
