Tell me about Paladins.

I keep telling myself that I shouldn't be playing a Paladin, but that guilty pleasure keeps tempting me.

Only level 18 at present but soon enough I'm going to have to actually learn how to do stuff if I want to get into instance groups/not suck ass and get yelled at in BGs, so I may as well be prepared.

What I want to know is:
- Must-have addons?
- How to heal?
- What to do in solo PvP?
- What to do in group PvP/BGs?

Also, what's a good leveling build? I'm already commited to SoC (of course), but after that point I'm kind of flexible (although I'm really tempted to go balls-out Ret critadin...it's my Warrior roots talking).

decursive
whispercast
buffahoy until you get greater blessings in the late 50s

my build is 21holy 30ret. 21 holy for the free crit heal every 2 min rocks. I find proc to be boring so I went ret to have some fun.

MC = spam decurse on certain bosses, spam cheap heals on other. you get soul stoned in case a raid whipes since you'll be wearing half plate and half cloth. fire aura is fun. seal of wisdom is nice on fights like golmagg and magmadar.

oh and warriors will be pissed if you roll on +crit gear so do it in crappy PUGs or if your guildmates already have it.

Having played Warrior to the endgame, I'm pretty sure I know what not to roll on. ;)

I'm probably not gonna take a pally to a raid, but I feel I at least deserve to give my faction-specific class a fair trial on its own merits. It's the same thing as why every Horde player rolls a Shaman, even if they do it secretly -- because deep down in side, they're tempted to test the power of their own faction-specific cheeseball.

addon: some kind of unit frame to see missing hp on people
healing in pve: bol, press holy light at the appropriate time
solo pvp: hf getting kited by everyone that can, and doing no damage to anyone ever
group pvp: bof warriors, bop priests, trinket and shield 1.5 every 5 minutes, get your 2.5s earthshocked for the rest of the time

dont be a terrible player by using decursive

I use ct_raid for my add on to keep track of health and stuff
I am not main healer only back up healer, thats what priests are for :)
Solo pvp, I do some heals on other ppl or cleanse, but mostly I get in there and fight and try to get some killing blows.
In group pvp, its mostly healing, cleanse, and buffs and if one tries to run I do the hammer of wrath :D but you wont get that for a while :)
I dont know why ppl are talking about decursive, as far as I know I dont have decurse anything. I have cleanse for poison and disease, mages take off curses not paladins. I am holy spec'd with some ret, and 5 in protection for the devotion aura.

This gave me a good laugh.

Pally Rule #1

You cannot MT at all, don't even try it. It just doesn't work. Maybe you can off-tank but not main. It'll get your group killed and everyone annoyed at you.

They can get a speed boost via talents early on and combined with the bubble, HoJ and healing it seems to make them decent cappers/escorts from what I have read

Also make sure you have some mana and +int +spt gear available. I really hate picking up a pally that can't heal worth a damn. If you want to go ret-spec fine but at least have some pieces to boost your mana regen and mana pool for healing.

you ;P dont you have full tier2 and shit?

Full tier 1. And a World Destroyer.

But really by SN standards, that's about midrange gear. I usually only show up for raids except on the weekends.

Also, I'm pretty sure I have a good grasp on the whole "don't try to be a Warrior" and "for the love of God bring some int/healing gear" aspect of Paladin play. What I mostly want advice on is the actual act of healing in PvE & PvP, because I have never played a healing class, ever. I don't know anything about how rapidly to cast spells/what spells to cast when/when to pop cooldowns like Illumination/how to get mana back when I run low/how to stagger heals/how not to pull aggro/etc.
