Say my CMOS chip either has no battery, or is dead. would this make the computer not POST, or if it suddenly had an ounce of power, the comp POST ed, and then died. Would the CMOS chip do all of that?

I would think it'dl post w/o a battery but you'd have to set your cmos info every time. It'd take its power from the pwr supply when you turned the unit on.

bad ram will make ur pc not post.

a processor not seated will make ur pc not post.

a video card not seated(or bad) will make ur pc not post.

it didnt yesterday. itd just hum and thats it. but today it just posted, i changed CMOS settings (it said battery low for CMOS). It went to post again, beeped, showed some garbage on the bottom of the boot screen and went silent once more
