Seriously, take the rope off and wire the release in place. It's actually pretty easy to just push in the center top of a garage door, slip a coat hanger through and pull the release rope. Then all your shit's gone.

I drilled a hole through the track just above a door roller and run a Philips screw driver through it. I drilled just above and barely big enough for the screw driver. You actually have to push the door down to pull the screw driver.

Yes, great idea to put the hinges on the outside of an entry door...
