SSL based vs. IPSec based

Our company does a lot of work at client locations -- many times the ports used for an IPSec based VPN are closed so its a total pain to connect to our company's network. However, usually the SSL port is open so it makes things a ton easier.

Thats my understanding anyway -- somebody with more experience may want to confirm or deny that
