It's the spending thats getting them into trouble. They are spending money on players with a significant history of being bad professionals.

Nani is going to be in the running for player of the year this year. Fergie has kept him on the tight leash for the last 3 years. Maybe it's the time when he explodes
 
Nani doesnt look any different than last year... In fact he scored ten goals but the last one came in February and then he faded for some reason

Fergie started benching him far more often. At the start of the season he was the complete team player. Towards the end of the season he started holding onto the ball more and more, until he wouldn't pass unless he had bagged himself a goal before hand.
