Test it with a control. Pull that image up in Photoshop. Sap the background color from the button (or create a screenshot on your PC with the same color scheme - it's probably one of the Windows defaults) and type each of the possible names over it using Tahoma. Shrink and save as JPEG with suitable compression. Then blow up the original and all of the samples you created to equal proportions and compare.

I have all the options on my list now, the guy hasnt logged on yet..but if he does i'll get him.

that is unless he has aim setup to only allow users on his buddylist to IM him.

edit: I just realized..the guy used this screenshot that was on the main page of our corporate website..and he has an aim window AND an ebay window minimized? ahah, either a lot of balls or no brains..
