Samsungs monstrous 15TB SSD is now shipping

um

dude.

seriously?

I mean...

you...

anyhow enjoy spending a ton of money on next gen tech so that you can watch star trek in such detail that you can see the sweat on Picard's head while you're masturbating in your Friends underroos.

u peep r so retarded. 15tb can store 7 hires pano source files, or 3 stereo panos, or 15mins of hd pano video. whats nice tho, is one of these will finally make it feasable to actually start doin this kind of stuff. i took one 1.5tb pano a few yrs ago in india. have never been able to process it yet, cuz needed at least 3tb avail to process it.

not everyone restricts their computer use to porn and solitare

Not worth it due to slow speed better of getting a few faster ssd drives.

Odio I see your point but it's still a long way off ibdont give a fuck about 4k either and I'm a TV nerd.

I'm waiting 4 oled tbh

yeah i did laugh out loud, 4k is the best out there at the mo (and native 4k content looks fucking awesome). Anybody who says it isnt great are like hipster douche cunts or poor people (or cucks/all of the above).

I'm not pulling the whole "oh I know something better but you probably haven't heard of it" line. I'm just saying I've seen them, they look good, but I have like 3 TV's already, one isn't hooked up, and they are fine. I guess I don't watch enough TV. I have 1080p movies and they look good enough for me for now. Maybe when everything goes that way I'll change. I'm just a few generations behind tech. Doesn't really interest me as it used to.

Err.. SAS isn't your traditional SCSI... quite different.

That's pretty huge for the enterprise market and data density, but I wonder what the power and thermals are like. The problem with all that extra density is (potentially) the concentration in power requirements and heat load in a server farm.
You know the heat dissipation from an SSD is much, much less than a magnetic hd, so I'm not sure what problem you refer too?

But what I'm wondering is this: How the hell do the S. Koreans keep out engineering the Japanese?

Well, one of the issues that can come up and does occasionally happen with SSDs is that the do generate enough heat to sometimes suffer from the side effects of thermal expansion/contraction. Where the solder points on the device can cause breaks in minuscule circuits that can cause SSDs to fail without any prior warnings.

And 15TB is nothing to scoff at, we're gonna start seeing some of the new HAMR drives coming out before long, possibly up to 30TB on those, but for the moment 15TB is king of the crop right now.

I thought I was overdoing it with 1TB of total SSD storage, and these fuckers are so god damn fast it's almost retarded. System boots in about 3 seconds following POST screen.

Between the 3 drives I have in my system for this I'm utilizing space on two, and I've used maybe 20%, give or take of my overall space.

I made a weird switch recently, it almost happened without notice, but I started not archiving and saving shit the way I used to. I used to have gigabytes and gigabytes of TV shows and shit I might watch once then never again.

I don't know, it's like when my read/write speeds for my hard drive were bottlenecked by my internet speed, I don't feel like things are such a chore to get again should I need them.

Edit: I was in the process of writing a shit-post about some abstract idea my brain got hotwired to think about as I sit here stoned off my ass. Fuck you if you post how lengthy this post is, and you can thank me for removing the 'actual' wall of text that was after this sentence.
