So i'm going to this IBM recruiting session today and was brushing up my resume. I have done some research on the objective part but can't seem to come up with anything solid.

I want to try and include the fact that I can innovative or will work through innovation because that is mentioned as one of IBM's objectives.

"To excel at IBM through innovation and dedication"

I know that sounds extremely gay and hence I need your help.

your skills will lead to innovated

seriously,
Just say something about how you have innovative problem solving skills.

most large tech companys use search databases on resume's and never actually read them. Find someone who works there and copy the key words from their resume and you'll be golden

"I pride myself at innovative responses to situations encountered everyday."

"My innovative approach to (insert activity here) has always been a strong point of mine."

"I am innvoative in my THINKing." - "Think" being a famous catchphrase fostered by a former IBM chairman Thomas Watson.

not really, i'm building a resume right now for a local tech firm that my friend works at. I'll let you know some keys from that one tonight

so let me get this right.

you are having trouble coming up with an innovative way of telling them that you are... innovative?

Objectives suck, you don't need one.

I don't know many people that still use Objectives. It's a waste of space on a resume. I mean it's pretty fucking obvious that your objective is to get a job, right?

right.

My brother is a tech recruiter and he totally helped me update my resume.

He had me get rid of a lot of stuff that is basically out of style - this may be more in the tech world.

I had a lot of positions that had old school sounding names - ha had me change all my position titles to "Support Engineer" instead of things like "Microcomputer Specialist" and stuff.

He also had me edit a lot of my skills and duties to sound more up to date (like change "cc:mail administrator" to "messaging administrator" etc.

it increased my responses a ton.

my gf's dad has been at IBM 27 years (in canada...where is the recruiting thing?).

he doesn't care about your objectives.

Recuirting thing is at York University. The job market is a bitch in Canada especially for Comp sci grads. So this looks like a good oppotunity to try and get some where in a big company.

But yea going on your suggestions I have deicded to scrap the Objectives part. So right now I have Highlights, Technical Skills, Work Experience and Education. As it stands the resume looks extremely plain and short. I have heard that is supposed to be the best format...but I don't understand how my resume is supposed to stand out if it is like another 1000 plain resumes which look pretty much the same.

It really stands out when you know someone in the company who can talk to the hiring manager...
