Question regarding YouTube front end.

I know very little about coding, websites, etc... Just thinking about a lot of issues youtubers face it seemed to me that the youtube servers, hosting, everything could all be utilized and a new front end that tracks what is truly trending etc and free of all of youtubes dirty tricks could be made. maybe even down to a working subscription system.

Does it cross too many legal barriers? Is that the issue someone hasn't done this or not having access to enough to make it viable the issue?

Just curious and figured someone on TW would know.

i'd use it for sure, even if it was identical to the existing one with just an additional flag for "don't recommend videos I've already seen".

make it html only and i'll pay you 500 bucks

The fact is that:

It has never been cheaper to put together your own platform with oodles of bandwidth and hardware in your own rackspace somewhere that avoids AWS/Azure/Google/Etc. The tools to create and deliver live streams and pre-recorded material across the web are not expensive. OS's have clustering/failover/load balancing built right in. E-commerce software is free or cheap. Payment gateways are super easy to setup. Bandwidth is super cheap. But - most people are really stupid with tech these days. Can't even read a manual.

because phones were invented and you no longer had to figure out how to use a computer

just like when they pumped all the average iq turdlets through college, you start making tech for the lowest common denominator and you start getting tech made by the lowest common denominator

Whoa whoa, enough with the rotational entabulator speak. Can someone TLDR this thread already?

Alvarez is basically talking about an aggregator / browser / metrics system that fronts Youtube.

Google search is basically that. Same with Facebook etc.

I am guessing there is a little :bandit: and :dapimp: involved here ;)

bing is more better, it also hits up vimeo, dailymotion and the pron sites and has mouseover preview and all that

 thank u, steve "developers developers developers developers" ballmer

I know tax, comment was sarcasm aimed at BoB.

Alvarez, just write a front end that serves video content from all the hosts available and profit.

More just a new frontend... say someone goes to http://www.freeyoutube.com and all the trending videos are displayed on the front page... not the videos that youtube says is trending but truly the most watched videos lately.... when you click on the videos it plays the videos from youtube... you can subscribe to the content providers etc... but you are still kept on this new front end.

Non family friendly youtubers deal with 1) their content never being displayed on trending 2) demonitization 3) people being unsubscribed to their channel randomly 4) have to hit notification bell to see content in daily stream making the sub button moot.

It seems like someone could make a new front end and buck the system from a lot of these trash elements. Youtube now has the SPLC working as their online police so things will only get worse.

You're thinking of a website that shows what's actually trending/popular?

So that would mean watching the view count of every video on youtube. A major blocking point is the view counts aren't updated in real time, and even sometimes delayed (especially on popular videos). So this wouldn't really work well unless YT had an open and accurate API, which I doubt is available.

but couldn't the new front end track what people clicked on.... yes it would lose the videos clicked on thru youtube so it wouldn't be accurate for all of youtube per se... but it would be accurate for anyone who used this new front end system.

If anyone has some :bandit: and :dapimp: lets get this coded tonight :)

oh lol you want this to help creators? hope the viewers like porn ads. youtube fucks with the numbers because they're trying to increase revenue, which ultimately does help creators (the ones paid by yt - if you have a deal with an outside ad network why the fuck would yt want to help you?). promoting people with ad-unfriendly content devalues the platform and has blowback for everyone, and there's no free speech in selling adspace (which is what "being a youtube creator" is - you sell video format adspace to youtube).

so say you're running freetube which is a new frontend. are you skimming off the ads? yt sure as fuck ain't gonna let you do that - if you can get around it programmatically they'll make it a legal battle (see how adblock is treated). so you'll be showing their ads, but your whole goal was to help out creators who can't make money off youtube ads. so you'll need your own ads to show on their content, and you'll have youtube with an accurate trending page and a whole lot more ads.

This is so true, Bing picture and video search poops all over Google

Meh. Sometimes I look at what's trending on YouTube. But it's slanted to the left or movie trailers. Otherwise I have all my subscriptions, and that's my content.

No I wasn't talking about removing their ads or interfering with their service really at all. Just more reliably tracking what people truly are watching in trends and maybe a way to more reliably show content from people you are subscribed to. Without the strong weight put on mainstream media and the typical youtube unsubscribing people from creators they don't like.

thats my point. Pewdiepie releases a youtube rewind that has 2 million views never shows in trending but Jack Black releases a 4 minute video with thousands of views 3 days ago and its still in trending.

oh. just use reddit then. i don't even know how to find the trending page you're talking about.
