Planning my character and things

hey guys I started the trial a couple days ago and I'm about a day and a half away from having all my skills trained up to what is in the nublet guide post. I plan to convert my free trial into a paid subscription.

Seeing as I just jumped in head first and followed the guides I still don't have a very good understanding of how the game goes in the long run. I'm just curious, what do you guys do in the Eve universe? I know ya kill shit but what kind of character do you play and things like that? I'm just lookin for ideas on how to shape my character and get an idea of what I want to be playing a couple months down the line.

Currently I think it would be really fun to just..well be a space pirate with a couple of guys and ambush things and such. That and take place in those epic wars I keep hearing about.

In short, join a large alliance and be able to make ISK (get a BS)

Welp, joining FREEE/ATF or GOONs (did you know their shortname is OHGOD, how lame) will give you the 'international' political intrigue/war you so desire.

Taking part in campaigns to defend the space or attack others (taking stations, taking part in large BS battles, etc.) group mining to raise ISK, running complexes with friends, attacking more enemies, building stations in 00, or taking part in any number of the logistical or industrial aspects of the game awaits those who really wish to dive head first into EVE.

In terms of skills, its where you want to take your character. Assuming your attributes are decently balanced, you can go either carebear or pvp. Seeing as how you're pvp, you should put an emphasis on getting into either inties or AF's, then getting T2 guns.

Before this, however, you need to establish an ability to make ISK. T2 ships are expensive, and getting good at PVP (esp. solo pvp) will require that you lose a bunch of ships. So being able to attain ISK in a way you find fun is crucial.

ISK is the grind of this game, but it can be fun. Missions are becoming more dynamic, and they're adding HUNDREDS this novemenber to spice it up even more. Most pilots in 00 rat, and ratting does have its joys, namely in the process of gaining cool mods and taking them to market. What I've had great success in doing is anchoring Giant Secure Cans in the middle of nowhere of a system, then taking all the mods that are dropped and store them for a later hauler run. The junk mods are melted down and the good ones are taken to empire. You cna get rich fairly quick in somewhat casual play over 2 weeks.

Being able to do the above, requiers a battleship. So, priority should be focused on both training for a BS, large guns/missles/drones whatever and acquring the ISK to purchase it via missions or whatever.

This is the route I took, i made sure I could get my rat on (training gallente BS and drones waaaay up, rat with a Domi now) then refocused on minmatar and learn to fly their ships. I feel they're better at PVP usually. Its a slower approach, but focused on flying alot of weird ships and gives a good amount of variety.

Dont worry about the time frame, most pilots take breaks in EVE when they get burnt out, but still pay for their subs and train up...this way, when you get excited about EVE again, your character will be even more badass.

So in terms of ships does it makes sense to go frigates -> cruisers -> battleships?

Tomorrow I will have finished all the skills in the nublet guide and getting a microwarp drive. I'm guessing I will be spending a good chunk more time in my rifter doing missions and things..maybe some pvp and getting my ass handed to me?

My current strategy on missions is orbit them around 15km out with my afterburners on and just lobbing missiles at them. Their guns and things usually don't even scratch my shields unless I get in close. I'm thinking I should pickup some of those long range turrets (artillery?) so I can use those as well as missiles?

And for planning out my skill learning beyond the nublet guide should I work to flesh out my characters basic skills like mechanic skills and engineering skills and are there any skill books I should be looking to get my hands on to start picking up more advanced skills?

Engineering & Mechanic skills are a great place to start, since those skills help every ship you fly. Beyond that, work on the skills most relevant to the ship you currently fly so that you become better in it, and then work up the skills needed for the next ship and equipment you're going to fly.

yea, that's a good plan.

A destroyer/frigate can eat up 1's, and a cruiser is near mandatory for 2's.

While using a BC for missions/ratting is fairly effective, its a diversion from training up to BS's. A BS is a superior 00 ratter to a BC. Far more survival and a bit more cargo space means all the difference. Its large guns will also easily destroy most the rats in Fade or Deklein Regions.

While most tools will say you cant fly one until you have X months under your belt, you should rightly ignore that. The only true prerequisite is Large Guns/Missles/Drones, ability to use large reppers/shield boosters, and at least 3 in the racial BS skill. The rats are really not that hard in Fade (deklien is another matter) and having the bare minimums will be enough for most (and me, when I started)

The only barrier to getting into a BS is the HUGE isk investment. Alot of tier1 BS's can go for around 50million. Amassing the ISK to pay for these things should be the goal for all new players. Once you have fully insured (and enough for a reinsure) a BS + mods, head out to 00 adn start amassing ISK.

having a steady income source is a near prerequisite to pvp'ing. It is also a nice diversion too.

While I, and most players, favor 00 ratting. Level 4 missions are also an excellent source of income. Its steady, safe, and a bit more challenging ot perform. Being able to buy stuff with the loyalty Points (lp) you amass is also super bling, adn something we didnt have the luxury of just a few months ago.

or you could be like me and sell GTC's for a Eve living.. for those who just don't have the time to mine...:)

And be like me, I beat on NPC BS's in my Crusier...:)
