Academy Awards - Wikipedia
"More than 57.25 million viewers tuned to the telecast for the 70th Academy Awards in 1998, the year of Titanic, which generated close to US$600 million at the North American box office pre-Oscars.
In 2008, the 80th Academy Awards telecast was watched by 31.76 million viewers on average with an 18.66% household rating, the lowest rated and least watched ceremony at the time, in spite of celebrating 80 years of the Academy Awards."
HALF. Gee, I wonder why? Could it be politics? SJW pressure? Yep.
There's also exposure fatigue. The Oscars used to be a bit more spectacle. It was basically a single night of glamour that people would tune into to see their favorite stars. Now with the internet people watch their favorite stars every day through social media. There are now dozens of awards shows that render winning awards mostly trivial. You can get live updates of who won without sitting through hours of people you don't know being thanked. The only real reason to tune in now is if you're into the celebration of film aspect.
I never saw Sideways so I feel no obligation to wine about it.
the only joke is the people who watch/care about the oscars
Listening to a bunch of retards talk about other retards for 14 hours is not my idea of entertainment
