Anybody playing this? It kinda fell under my radar with the promises of Ashes of Creation but I was watching some streamers play it with a buddy of mine and we bought in. Game is amazingly fun as far as mmo's go. They add quite a few new elements and have done an amazing job considering amazon isn't exactly known for their .. games. Jeff money making moves. Only pay for the game. No sub cost. So far a positive experience aside from the town and faction quests just being repeated.

Me and a couple of buddies got it. Could be pretty cool to put a TW company together and meet up to pvp some fools. Let me know what server you guys are on and what your name is, and i'll make a new character and friend you there.

Amazon's 'New World' Game Killing $1,500 Graphics Cards, Players Say

Amazon's latest game has left some players with an irreparable, expensive problem: a black screen and a destroyed $1,500 graphics card

Amazon has a new video game, and it's reportedly causing major issues for players.
The game is said to destroy an especially expensive type of graphics card, NVIDIA's RTX 3090.
The graphics card costs at least $1,500, and often sells for much higher on the re-sale market.

Amazon's latest video game, "New World," has a potentially major problem: Some players say the game "bricked," or destroyed, their wildly expensive and hard-to-find graphics card.

"I just bricked a 3090 in the main menu after setting my graphics quality to medium and hitting save," a Reddit user said in a new thread on Tuesday night. "Can't believe it. Anyone else had a catastrophic failure like this?"

Many other uses had run into a similar if not identical issue.

The thread is full of people describing the same scenario: A sudden black screen, with nothing displayed, and computer fans turning on to full speed. After resetting their computer, no video comes out of their card and further inspection reveals it has been "bricked" and must be returned to the manufacturer for replacement (the so-called "RMA" process).

Notably, the graphics card in question — NVIDIA's RTX 3090 — costs $1,500 at a minimum, and it often sells for much higher prices on the re-sale market. It's also very hard to find, and resupplies are rapidly swept up by resellers.

Also of note: The issue appears to impact one particular version of the 3090 manufactured by EVGA.

It's unclear what, if anything, players can do to prevent the issue outside of not playing "New World" for the time being. The game is currently in a "closed beta" phase, meaning the only way to play it is by invitation or pre-order.

Representatives EVGA didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

An Amazon Games representative sent Insider the following statement: "Hundreds of thousands of people played in the 'New World' Closed Beta yesterday, with millions of total hours played. We've received a few reports of players using high-performance graphics cards experiencing hardware failure when playing 'New World.' 'New World' makes standard DirectX calls as provided by the Windows API. We have seen no indication of widespread issues with 3090s, either in the beta or during our many months of alpha testing. The 'New World' Closed Beta is safe to play. In order to further reassure players, we will implement a patch today that caps frames per second on our menu screen. We're grateful for the support 'New World' is receiving from players around the world, and will keep listening to their feedback throughout Beta and beyond."

Seemed way to structured and linear in character development for my taste.

Been waiting for another Shadowbane since the mid 2000's. Crowfall was supposed to be that, but fell flat on its face imo. Still waiting.

Linear? You're given a person and allowed to build it into whatever you want rather than class based.

And one of my favorite new elements so far is the pvp based quest lines for faction. And the group pvp is a blast and a half.

And the game breaking 3090's is bs. It's the 3090's breaking. The game isn't causing it.

idk calling this game "linear" makes me think you've not learned a thing about it.

It's the most non linear mmo ever made honestly.

I like the sense of exploration in some MMO worlds. I'll keep my eye on it but won't get it at launch. MMOs can be patched into things very different from how they start off so who knows how the game will be a year or so from now.

Uhhh launch is at the end of next month.

It's not going to change much. They do have some shit to figure out though. Like swimming. Instead you're like metal mario and just walk through the water while running out of breath.

But that's a minor thing considering there isn't much deep water.

Oh look, it's like I said. The manufacturers were the problem. Not the game.

Get off bandwagon posts they're fucking stupid. A game cannot break a video card. It's not like malware to a gpu. That lane of thinking is so fucking retarded. The fact that you'd believe that kind of bullshit shows your intelligence level because look at all the people not running it on a 3090 just playing the fuckin game.

You're an idiot, and a retard. Combined into one.

Its very limited in options once you start down a path. I always thought Shadowbane did it best.
