Mining in >=.5

Im wondering how long it takes to get to a level where you can start mining in a barge or hualer and just walk away for an hour?

Wondering what ship i would need as well as the skills to mine the crappy ore (but in huge quanities) to make some good ISK without needing to stay at the comp and constantly watch....
 
You can't walk away for more than about 10 minutes I think it is for a barge, and you wouldn't want to do that in low sec at all, and have to worry about NPCs spawning as well.

yea thats why i was saying higher then .5 However how do the asians that farm ISk do it without getting killed?

also for a mammoth there is 5625 cargo space, i can fit 1 mining laser on it (tech 2) and lets say i was mining omber (.6 mass) i could get 9375 omber on board, reprocess it and i could get 4162.5 omber, which last i remember sold for 120isk each, which is only 500k isk per trip

is there a better way to high sec mine?

Now this you can do. If you want to just log in your character, and afk mine in high sec, the above will work.

Use THIS CHART as a reference for ore refining. You will not get these numbers until you have high skills, but you should get something similar....

You wont get rich doing this, but you can set your ship mining, and walk away...

To mine something like crokite in 0.0, you need a tank, and you need to monitor it and your miner. You wont be able to mine into a hauler (you can, but it's not practical). But within a few hours, you can have your self several cans worth of crokite, which is 3978 zydrine per can (underestimated). Zydrine is currently selling for ~3900isk per unit.

A good barge can fill a can every 20 minutes, so that's around 700k isk per minute of mining... ;)
 
well mining in a hualer will only give me what? 9375 omber per trip, however in a hualer that will take me forever to mine :\ also after processing, id probably only get 222 isogen per 500 omber, leaving me with 4162.5 omber, which if its selling for 125isk (is that right?) then id only barely get 500isk per trip

And from 1 tech 2 laser i can harvest 60 per minute meaning that to fill all 5625 it will take me 93.7 minutes :|

Is there a faster way to make some cash? :\
 
well, we have a guy in my corp, he is AFK ratting,

launches his drones, and walks away, and rakes on em, only a few grand of bouty per pirate, but he can do it afk all night,

I love the drones now, they just chase stuff down targetted or not
 
You won't be able to AFK mine in a barge due to the high amount it mines and the relatively low cargo capacity it has. If you train up to a hulk and fork out the money for one, tanking any NPC spawn isn't a problem, but you'll still need to be semi-AFK to jettison the ore to a can that either you haul later or a friend hauls while you're mining.

If you truly want to be able to AFK mine, train up to amarr industrial 3 for a bestower, fit all expanders in the lows, and a mining laser in your high. Find a massive scordite roid in 0.9 - 1.0, and leave it for 3 hours. Presto, 20k scordite. Of course, you could mine that much in 10 minutes in a barge, so it isn't exactly worthwhile. Mining is much more profitable as a group enterprise.

Mining is like sex; sure you can do it alone, but it's all that much better when done with someone else.
 
You could do what I just did. A group of four retrievers were mining in empire. I think it was being run by one guy. I'd take my cov ops in, set an insta bm, go grab my hauler, insta in, grab the ore, and warp out to station. I made 750k in very little time and it was entertaining as hell.
 
Your best bet for mining alone or afk is using a class V hauler and doing it in .9-1.0. If you want to grab some scripts to auto switch ore into a jetcan,then you can do that. but beware,as you will be ganked by people if your caught. They have ways of tricking it into fighting them,thus making you at fault.
Your best bet is to just not do it. I cant tell you how many times i've been ransomed or just out right ganked mining in low sec space.
