Laptop External Monitor Advice

Own a surface book 2 - here are my ports.

2 x USB type-A (version 3.1 Gen 1)
1 x USB type-C (version 3.1 Gen 1 with USB Power Delivery revision 3.0)
3.5mm headphone jack
2 x Surface Connect ports
Full-size SDXC card reader

What's the best way to connect an external monitor to this laptop? Wireless connections are neat but my understanding is you lose a ton of performance. Especially if you are viewing high end imaging and videos? Can you please advise an Ultra 4K HD monitor and what cables I need to purchase? I thought USB C to USB C would be best, but now I am not sure.

Thanks for the help.

use a webcam to record the screen and stream to the external monitor. you may have to invert your mouse inputs and also look at the monitor via a mirror to flip the image.

Why not use a surface dock? It has all the ports you probably need, plus power.
Yeah, most laptops need their docks to connect to monitors properly. When you're ready to be mobile, disconnect from the dock and go (rather than disconnecting multiple cables like power/monitor/mouse/keyboard/headphones/etc.).
