Laptop Advice

I just got a new job that's going to keep me away from home for long periods of time so i want to get myself a new laptop....i don't really know much about laptops.

I'm after a decent unit for gaming and watching movies, i was just planning to go on price as it seems you kinda get what you pay for these days with the major brands. $2000 is probably as high as i would go...would prefer to be more around the 1.5k mark.

Anyone got some advice?
 
if your job doesn't offer to at least give you one, quit and move on to the next one. even my cheap ass company gives me a core i7 laptop and blackberry to use while working.
 
I ordered an envy 17 3D for my work laptop this week. Won't have it until January to give a first hand review. Web reviews are good though. Anandtech has a recent one up.
