Not always. Sometimes they are just a plain brownish color as well.

In fact, 99% of arachnids have some various color morphs depending on the region they are found in. It might be something as small as a darker or lighter brown for a recluse or something different altogether, like a solid black, black widow.

ok, i thought a brown recluse was about the size of a half dollar (leg span included)... spanning a couple inches sounds > a half dollar. therefore spider in question is not a brown recluse. amirite!?
