Is the difference noticeble between 60, 120 and 240hz TV's?

Pretty much stated in the thread title, looking at a new TV and I cant see a difference between the Hz, other than price. What am I missing? Will it be noticible in certain types of movies as opposed to others?

Have you looked at them in a store? Its pretty easy to see the difference. Dont just do the side by side demo thing either. Watch a movie, sports, whatever you normally watch.

You really can't tell a difference between 120hz and 240hz? 240Hz looks so unrealistic because it's so smooth. You get used to it but I couldn't stand my TV when I first got it.

Short story: yes

Long story: sort of

TBH I think it's more of a personal preference thing. I hate 120hz+, but some people abide by it.

i thought the human eye could only process around 100 frames per second (ie. 100hz)? but that was something i learned from gamers when i was trying to boost my fps in counter-strike (pre-source versions), so it's likely wrong.

I tried to but they kicked me out and told me I would be arrested if I didn't take the porn out right away.

I'm still not sold on Panasonic plasmas always being better a FULL LED backlit (Sony XBR) still beats Plasmas to me. Edge w/ Local Dimming isn't so bad either. It's just regular LCD and edge LCD that sucks big time. To bad no one really makes full LED anymore besides Sony XBR's that cost way to much at $3,000 or Vizio which is considered a budget brand and never given recognition by anyone. If you can find an old Samsung full array LED or afford the XBR 909 it kicks ass.

I don't watch blu-ray DVDs or HD cable, so I really couldn't tell ya if 120 is the shit or not, I haven't really inputted something with extremely high quality yet.

But the thing I notice most between TVs at least in the store displays seems to be the way they interpret the images, such as outlining foreground objects to give contrast and add depth, or crisp lines on panning shots where the image tends to shift quickly from one side of the TV to the other.

Three real world alternatives to Plasma for those non Panasonic fanboys.

a.) The Samsung 6800 with edge looks good and is a decent price, its the cheapest edge model to still have local dimming which makes it so much more superior to the rest of the crappy edge lit tv's. Plus the 6800 looks amazing, I recommend it over Panasonic Plasmas if you don't have dark room lighting and want to spend a bit more. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN55C...2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1299647643&sr=1-2

b.)http://www.amazon.com/XVT553SV-55-Inch-TruLED-Dimming-Internet/dp/B003GDHI12 This model of Vizio is full array and has local dimming technology. It kicks total ass and is really underated by everyone that is busy loving plasmas. The flaw it's a vizio and not a Samsung so no one pays attention. Look how cheap it is compared to its only comeptitor the Sony XBR 909.

c.) Amazon.com: Sony XBR-52HX909 52" 1080p 240Hz 3D LED LCD HDTV: Electronics Here it is the big papa when you say fuck it to plasma, price, and are willing to let this big behemoth in your tv viewing room. It's huge and full array and it looks amazing. Not to mention its easily one of the best looking TV's around. Good luck affording it or finding it on sale though.

I've been wanting to upgrade my 60hz LCD to 120hz for gaming...

i assume there is a big difference assuming my comp is producing more than 60fps

That's not really the 240hz as much as it is is the smoothing features that make the "soap opera effect". For example its called auto motion plus on Samsung. Turn all that off its crap.

120hz/240hz IS NOT THE CAUSE of the soap opera effect. That's just another motion processing effect that you can turn off.

You can turn off any of those motion processing effects if you wanted to.

EDIT: like streetwi$e said

so if cable/satelite TV comes in at 30fps and u turn off that smoothing, then whats the point of 240hz?

legit question btw, idk much about this
