Help with DVD playback

After upgrading a PC i bought off my cousin, (went from ME to XP) I have found that I no longer can play DVD movies on it. I used to be able to just fine. I've tried everything from reinstalling the old DVD player that was on it (Media bar. it's a Sony Vaio) to trying to find DVD decoders for WMP to no avail. Any suggestions as to a program that will play DVD's on here or some sort of technical advice? Thanks in advance.

It's a Pioneer DVD-ROM drive.
 
Didn't work. All i get is WMP freezing and not responding. I've upgraded/downloaded all updates I can for it. It works in the respect that it gives me total information about the DVD in there, but that is all.

Edit: Ok, does anyone have anything simpler then this? All I want is to be able to play a DVD, not have to mess with modules and command lines...ect..
Looking for more of a 'put DVD in. DVD plays' type program.
