[Help] Capturing (ripping?) Streaming Video

[backdrop] i have to give a massive presentation on sun microsystems. i would like to include a video about java [/backdrop]

i want to rip a streaming ONLY (read: it doesn't cache itself on the client machine so you always have to rebuffer it). is this possible? is there "FREE" software to do it? UCF's network is fucking notorious for taking a dump when you need it the most... like in the middle of your fucking presentation. i want to be able to burn it to disc and run it from that.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.
 
What file format?

There was that old app StreamBox VCR that ripped lots of streams, but Real Network made them stop developing it because they're spoilsports.

I'll try to track down a copy and throw it on my site if you want.
