Getting internet [old house: party line]

a friend of mine lives with her grandma, who has apparently owned a house since alexander graham bell was kicking around, and some how, even though she lives in a pretty big city, she has a party line.

[kiddies: a party line is a single phone # shared by a few houses, back when it was ridiculously expensive to have a private line.]

56K will obviously not work, because she can't block the phone line like that. Can she even get DSL? Cable ftw, but I dunno if the house even has cable running through it. I'm serious, it's possible.

I'll look into someone in ontario that has free installation, otherwise it will be too pricey. this is for one student who lives with a blind grandma.
