Anything i should know going into my first time ever playing this game?

I know i should do the tutorial, but anything else i should definatly pay attention to? What skills or whatever should i look into training?

I'm really going into this game with no idea what i'm getting into. I've heard of the difficult learning curve, but i'm so bored i don't see a better time to try such a difficult game out.
 
A. don't train straight to bigger ships... you will get there only to find you can't put any guns or decent modules on it. (I made this mistake)

B. be patient with the game... it's going to suck big time at first. you will get totally frustrated with it unless you understand you're stuck with PvE for a little while (I also made this mistake)

C. keep early training focused on one of two things... Learning skills, or skills associated with flying a Frigate (includes : spaceship command, <your race> frigate, associated gunnery skills (check your ship bonus), skills to use basic shields / repairers) ... this is because even if you go pure industrialist, everybody needs to be able to fly a frigate like it's their job for fleet operations later in the game. And sometimes, you just gotta blow something up.

D. once you've played the game for about a month or so, THEN figure out what you really want to do... and set up a skill training plan. Don't train useless skills, or you will still be complaining about how useless you feel a year from now. A well rounded character is not really an option for new players right now, given the size and depth of the skill tree. (I made this mistake big time)

E (most important). make friends... channel TribalWar is a good place to start. 0.0 space is not.
 
read the newbie threads several times in the coming 2-3 days :)

you want to get prepped to have a simple frigate.

1. do the tutorial missions

2. find a high Quality lvl I agent from "security" for a major local corp (like Gallente Navy or something) and just focus on that agent for a long long time.

3. get some simple learning skills and focus on basic stuff to fit out a ship.

4. grab the "evemon" program...

Just remade my guy because i didn't follow the newbie guide stat wise, so i was only a frig 2.
