All the windows that are docked to the overview will be moveable. The clunky and hard to read fleet UI is now undockable and redone; easy to read, larger, clearer icons.

There'll also be an ability to 'watch' up to 10 people int eh fleet, seeing their HP and any alerts they put out. Makes remote repping 190348-239084x easier.

EVE Voice will be integrated INTO the fleet UI. You'll have listen in the FLeet, Wing, and Squad channels, but only be able to speak in teh squad (assuming you're not a Wing Commander, FLeet commander, or specially designated)

It really sounds smooth and well worth it for the organization alone. Hell, since there'll be less ability for spies to infiltrate a TS or Vent with a made up name and corp tag, I think security will increase. No more reg'ing issues too! FC's can talk just to cap pilots, scouts, or tacklers, giving seperate orders and such.

Man, sounds awesome, hope everyone gets it.

You've been drinking too much kool-aid Hani, EVE-Voice does and will continue to suck as long as it's tied to the client. People can't lose their comm abilities when the server is down or their client crashes, it's not acceptable.

At least EVE-Voice is free now. CCP realized no one will ever pay for it, so now it's permanently operating on a free trial basis.

EVE voice is free? Hell, no barrier now.
Well it's free in the sense that CCP has yet to charge anyone for it. Theoretically they could still start charging people, but because the adoption is so poor and the critics so fierce, they just keep handing out free trial time to everyone. At this point it would be difficult for them to change to charging for it.

In-game voice is a good idea in theory, but like Virge said, if the server crashes, so do your comms, and if you have a fleet in space when the server goes down, you need to be able to communicate to people out of the game to coordinate re-entry. That way the first person that gets in can provide intel to the rest of the fleet, possibly saving them from logging into a turkey shoot.

Why not use EVEVoice for Primary Comms if it's going to be organized and easy to use for fleet engagements, but keep TS for backup in case the server goes down?

Because the organization aspect is minor compared to the difficulty in trying to use two voice systems at once. If the server goes down, everyone already needs to be on the TS server.

Maybe I'm missing something, but everyone is on TS already, just stick everyone in a group room and have everyone rebind their talk key to a secondary one. It's not like they've got to learn how to use TS just to use it as a backup.

Use EVEVoice in game for the benefits it does give (organization, lack of spies, etc...). If the server goes down communication obviously moves over to the TS where everyone can communicate, you can determine who is in game once the server is back up, etc.., etc.. If a spy hears us organizing that part of an op, so be it.

It doesnt' sound hard to me to rebind the TS key to something secondary that almost never gets used but is there as a backup. The only problem I see is people getting lazy if you use EVEVoice 99.9% of the time and not actually being on TS, although it's not like it takes 10 minutes to join if the server were to go down during an op, people could be on TS within seconds of a server crash. That could even be the plan: "don't worry about being on TS, but have it setup so in case of emergency everyone jumps to it"

Everybody already uses TS. Everybody knows how to use TS, and it's convenient even if you're not in the game, or just sitting in a station picking your butt.

It's more flexible, and stable, and I don't see any of the major alliances switching over to the in-game voice. The EVE client lags bad enough already doing most things. A lot of fleet combat ends up with client desync's and crashes even without EVE Voice, the sound, or any effects turned on. It's important to follow along with orders and instructions, even if you're trying to log back in and such. Just makes no sense to me.

Hadn't thought about the lag issue, and I really don't care about EveVoice, just didn't see what the big deal was with it being a horrible thing, but lag and ability to communicate w/o logging in does seem important

I think any arguemnt about lag has to wait till the next patch. Sounds like it'll be better. Also, alot of pilots dont dual screen, so at least you'll have a UI indicator that tells you who is talking.

Besides that, clear com and shut the fuck up would be a thing of the past, since only WC's will have voice in teh Fleet com and muting will be a built in feature.

Its new, and it will take time for people to get comfortable. But after that, Im sure ti'll rawk. It has to be one of a few MMOG's with a built in voice AND calculator. Nice selling points if you ask me.
