Get an ATI 4850. Cheaper with nearly identical performance.
I would suggest a 650W PSU, as well.

I have been putting together a new machine also. If you plan on overclocking you may be better off getting the OCZ Reaper, on newegg as opposed to the Gskill (which isn't bad). Pretty good deal on it right now:

Newegg.com - OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

43.99 after the MIR.

I was going to pickup the Wolfdale E8400 also. Again if you plan on OCing, which seems to be the thing to do with the C2Duo, you should think about picking up an after market CPU heatsink as the standard Intel one, as far as I can tell, sucks.

Other than that it is a pretty solid build.

Ive been reading great reviews on the 4850, I just don't know if I can trust ATI. I've had shitty issues with them in the past.

Good post man, thanks for all the info on the memory. As far as overclocking goes, its going to be something I do down the line. Right now im just excited to get all the shit going and load up some standard games. Then i'll hookup a nice heatsink. I haven't had a legit gaming PC since 02

Isn't ATI the way to go?

It seems to me that ATI cards are dominating. The 4870, if the benchmarks are accurate, beats out Nvidia cards in SLI. Overall looks like a solid card. Reviews for the 4850 indicate the same (with the obvious performance decrease).

You basically have the exact same PC I built like 2 months ago. Different power supply, my 9800 is EVGA, different CD drive, and my gskills ram is 800, but that's about it.

How much you pay for the whole package? I love my PC as is, especially because of how cheap it is :D

be careful applying the heatsink on that board, I fucked up the plastic connector feet and had to buy a new (but ultimately way better) one.

Oh yeah, its super EZ to overclock that 8400 (I'm sure u already knew this). I have my cores at 3.6 Ghz to be conservative, but you can go way further with a good heatsink.

500W is too low, go for 600+

500 can probably handle his system just fine. People tend to get a PSU way to large for their needs.

get a different brand psu, ocz sucks

get a geforce gtx 260 instead of 9800gtx+. i think you can find one for around $200
