What do ye think of this deal?

cliffs:
we have cable (1 HD box, 2 non-HD boxes) all premium channels but TMC;
internet, low end tier (20megs/sec);

Jan '13 bill- $252.07 (includes 15.37 for late fees from Dec '12)

Mother comments on it, I blow a gasket saying wtf is it so high?;
I call CC to inquire, state that is unacceptable for senior citizen on fixed income (more than 1/4 of her monthly income)
escalates to supervisor;
supe puts me on with Promo Dept;
get sold on CC Triple play for 1 yr for $160/month...get HBO, Starz, 50mb/s internet and we keep our old # plus get new # (CCs #, will have 2 land lines + get to cancel Verizon long distance which now would be only $20/month for local) also keep HD service...only new equip is CC wireless router/modem combo free (required for CC phone);
After an hour on the phone hang up feeling satisfied, mother is happy as punch :)

After a yr cost is (ballpark) $200/month;

profit (yay me?)

Thoughts?

ps. supe supposed to call back with a few credits our current bill to lower it.
 
2 years ago I got rid of cable, and I'm glad i did. Now I just use roku and have amazon prime ($89/year), netflix ($6/month), hulu plus ($8/month). This gives me everything in the world I could possibly want.

the only thing I miss a bit out on is some sports. If it is a must watch game I go to a friends place or bar. If it is less important, I'll just stream it from the net.

My scenario would save you roughly $2k a year. And that includes my internet. All i do there is call every 6 months and tell them I need the speed but hate the cost and they give me the intro rate for another 6 months ($25/month).

comcast is trash im surprised they didnt tell u there was nothing they could do but they'll send out a 3rd party tech on monday from 2-6 pm and u must be home.
 
ive had comcast employees tell me on several occasions after terrible daily outages that'd id be credited for all down time.

when it finally comes time to cut the cord the dozen or so credits were never applied by any tech even tho several of them offered and oh hey surprise there's nothing they can do.
 
I can't see myself ever returning to cable, unless the a la carte channel thing every comes to fruition, which I doubt it will.
 
yeah i'm thinking about getting rid of cable...the thing is, internet is $50/month which i won't get rid of...and they just offered me a double play package since i don't need phone, which was every channel on comcast plus internet for $115/month. So if I cancel cable that is really saving about $780/year - doesn't seem worth it to me

i'm not sure how you are saving 2k/year

Dropped the bill by a hundred for a year + less than what we are paying now when the promo runs out. Super Negotiator I do not claim.
Why I said (yay me?) I posted because I expected something like "WHAT DUM SHIT U R, X PROVIDER OFFERS THIS AT MUCH LOWER PRICE KKK IDIOT ;)

Im an idiot but Im smart enough to not post (usually) alot of personal info here but it is what it is. Had a very hard '12 and had to move back in with Mom. Heres another tidbit for you...(@naptown) PA is "supplementing" my lackluster pay by paying me to be a primary caregiver for my disabled, senior citizen mother @ 1k/month for doing what I do anyway. I cook, clean, empty porta-potty, clean dishes/house/laundry/escort to DRs visits and generally am on call 24/7 for anything my mother needs. Im now taking an active interest in her bills and Im the one who she turns to when she has a problem understanding bills (case in point she kept trying to pay the PECO bill days ago and couldnt understand why she kept getting Comcast instead.) I am all kinds of stupid at times I admit but Im trying to ba good son by caring for her after all the bs I put her through with my alcoholism. I would rather be at a better place at this point in my life but caring for my mother gives me more satisfaction than letting a stranger do it or putting her in a home. Her calling me to hand her an item 5' from her is not uncommon. AND, I am proud, I got her off cigarettes and on to an e-cig, not the perfect solution but its a start yes?

I can be a piece of SHIT sometimes but I try to be good person who will do anything to help out family and friends when I can. My best friend, who I worked for for 10 years (electrician) trusts me enough to have his his CC info and I am on his tmobil accnt as an authorized user (can get phones/add accounts/generally fuck him over) so :shrug:

As bad as my life sounds I make the best of it. When I get down with my life I smile when I go to sleep knowing "at least Im not Tehvul"
 
there isn't, but the special deal wears off after 12 months, then you become a bowling ball Comcast has a firm grip on.
